Heliograph with signaling shutter, produced by Kibbutz Ginosar during 1947-1949, using imported mirrors.
Used by the Haganah Signal Service and the IDF Signal Corps in the War of Independence, until early 1950s.
Signalers preferred using the signaling shutter over signaling mirror, as used in the British Mark 5 heliograph.
The crosswire was pointed towards the receiving station, and the mirror reflected the sun rays on the crosswire. Opening and closing the shutter with the lever created morse code (dots and dashes).
