British Field Telephone Set D Mk V

Military field telephone for voice and telegraphy over field lines.

Telegraphy uses tone signaling, produced using electromechanical interrupter.

The telephone has a bell but does not have a magneto generator. Calling the far station is done by tapping the morse key, creating a tone in the far station headphone.

Used by the British army during WW2.
Used by the Haganah Signal Service. Used by the IDF during the War of Independence (1948).

Powered by two 1.5 Volts batteries (‘X’ type).

Using British D8 field cable (Metallic pair) allows voice communication up to 25 Km and morse code communications for more than 40 Km; using British D3 field cable (Ground return) allows voice communication up to 15 Km and morse code communications for more than 20 Km.
